Introduction to Canada
Every year, a remote Canadian town called Churchill is transformed into the polar bear capital of the world. In October and November, as many as 1200 polar bears gather here on the icy tundra, waiting for the sea in the bay to freeze so they can wander out in search of seals. Excellent polar bear sightings are virtually guaranteed and it's not unusual to see dozens of bears in a single day. We operate a selection of polar bear trips of differing duration to suit your timescale and budget.
Further east lies the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, where our land-based tours take in the wildlife of this remote and spectacular region. Enjoy close encounters with moose, caribou and black bears, whilst off-shore you can assist in the ongoing research into the area's humpback whale population, as well as spotting orcas, seals and a wide variety of pelagic birds.
For those wanting to head into the frozen Canadian Arctic, we offer a number of adventurous expedition voyages. Well-known for its diverse wildlife, this area has a rich native culture and spectacular scenery. For those seeking the truly remote, a voyage deep within the Arctic Circle offers pure adventure where few have ventured. Wildlife encounters bring you up close to the largest land predator on earth today – the polar bear. We operate a selection of polar bear trips – either based in Winnipeg with a full day in Churchill, or two-centre tours, which give you more time to explore Churchill as well as a second day out in a Tundra Buggy. Transfer to and from Churchill is by charter plane from Winnipeg.
Hudson Bay, where all this bear behaviour is based, is also the location for one of our adventurous expedition voyages. Well-known for its spectacular wildlife, this area has a rich native culture and during the light summer months when the voyages operate offers spectacular scenery. For those seeking the truly remote, an icebreaker voyage deep within the Arctic Circle offers pure adventure where few have ventured.
