Introduction to Lapland
We feature a selection of winter holidays to Lapland, including idyllic log cabins in Finland, husky sledging adventures in Sweden, the chance to sleep on ice at the world's coolest hotel, the original ICEHOTEL, and unforgettable northern lights encounters throughout the region. You can also join a fabulous multi-centre holiday combining Swedish Lapland with northern Norway as well as the cities of Stockholm and Oslo.
Lapland is not a country but a region of great natural beauty, larger than the UK. Some believe it to be the ‘homeland’ of Santa Claus (quite rightly!) but it is so much more than this. Having no definitive borders, other than coastal sections, it is difficult to pinpoint where Lapland begins and ends. One thing is certain, with an allure all of its own, it draws people back time and again.
Although Lapland covers a section of northern Sweden, Finland, Norway and part of Russia’s Kola Peninsula, travelling within Russia can be difficult, hence we’ve concentrated on the Nordic countries. Actually, our main focus is on Swedish Lapland for the simple reason that it is the most accessible with our exclusive direct flights and possibly the best known part of the region, being the location of the Icehotel, the world’s original hotel built entirely of snow and ice.
